Restorative Justice

New Park promotes restorative justice at all times. By continuously reinforcing the ethos of restorative justice within New Park, it is hoped it will improve the children’s and young people’s interactions in school and their home community, develop better family relationships and prepare the pupils for adult life. The key principles of a restorative approach within school are as follows -

RESPECT: for everyone by listening to other opinions and learning to value them
RESPONSIBILITY: taking responsibility for your own actions
REPAIR: developing the skills within our school community so that its individual members have the necessary skills to identify solutions that repair harm and ensure behaviours
are not repeated

RE-INTEGRATION: working through a structured, supportive process that aims to solve the problem and allows young people to remain in education.

The key principles can relate to many different scenarios within school and are part of everyday life. The teaching staff at school promote restorative justice and also use pro social modelling to support and guide the pupils.
