All students aged 14 years upwards have the option to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme. The regular school attenders are currently working towards various sectional certificates some of which are achieved within the school setting such as the food lessons which contributes towards the skill section of the award. All pupils also have the opportunity to take part in D of E lessons which enable pupils to gain confidence whilst working together in groups and develop communication and social skills. They also learn to trust, tolerate and interact with others. Additional groups of students achieve their sectional awards by attending offsite vocational placements or attending the gymnasium during an alternative curriculum. When pupils leave school they have the chance to transfer the award to their college or work placements.
