Social Worker

Social Workers in Schools

Salford City Council are excited to announce that they will be working with New Park Academy on a new project called Social Workers in Schools’.

This is a research pilot that will be evaluated by Cardiff University and has already taken place in Lambeth, Stockport and Southampton, and we are looking at how schools and social care can work together to support our children and families. There are eight High Schools that are involved across Salford.

This is a research pilot that will be evaluated by Cardiff University and has already taken place in Lambeth, Stockport and Southampton, and we are looking at how schools and social care can work together to support our children and families. There are eight High Schools that are involved across Salford.

What does this mean?

A Social worker employed by Salford Council will be working within the school for the next 12 months. They will be part of the Social Workers in Schools (SWIS) Team.  As with any other member of staff in school, the SWIS Social Worker will be working with the children and you as parents/carers and will form part of the pastoral team, supporting with their safeguarding work.

This is an opportunity to look at how we can help support and engage with local communities by being in schools which are at the heart of them. This is a service that will be used to support every child/ family linked to the school.

If you currently have social care involvement, this will not affect how you currently work with your social worker.  The SWIS social worker will be an additional source of advice and support, based on the school site.

Both the Social Workers and School are looking forward to being part of this.
